Harris Earns Enough Votes in Virtual Roll Call to Clinch Nomination: DNC Chair

Vice President Kamala Harris has earned the support of a majority of delegates in the Democratic National Committee’s virtual roll call and will be the party’s nominee in November.

“I am so proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has earned more than a majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the nominee of Democratic Party following the close of voting on Monday,” DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said in a statement.

The virtual roll call began Thursday morning but will not officially end until Monday evening. The party originally opted to hold the virtual roll call ahead of the Democratic National Convention in order to comply with an Ohio law requiring that party’s certify their nominees within 90 days of the election.

While Ohio adjusted the law, the party went  ahead with the virtual nomination after President Joe Biden declined to seek reelection.

Harris was the sole candidate on the roll call vote.
